1) Develops long- and short-range plans for laboratory development, maintenance and expansion to support JFI's strategic mission.
2) Continually evaluates and reviews all operating practices and processes for their effectiveness and efficiency.
3) Ensures timely delivery of facilities services requested by students, faculty, and researchers. Supervises inspections of laboratory and support spaces for deficiencies and potential safety, health, or code problems.
4) Evaluates reports and determines appropriate solutions.
5) Oversees staff or third parties responsible for movement of equipment and materials, including ensuring proper and timely set up of employees in new office space; meeting space allocation, and maintenance of research equipment.
6) Shares management responsibilities of the GCIS Building Manager with the PSD Director of Design and Construction.
7) Familiarity with the JFI/Chemistry research activities, processes, and procedures to and assist architects, engineers and construction professionals.
8) Helps faculty and staff in understanding the design and construction process.
9) Provides technical support to the Facility and work in conjunction with the GCIS building manager through the renovation or fit out of research labs and support spaces.
10) Services project management team helping to ensuring existing conditions are accurately identified and addressed in contract documents prior to bid.
11) Serves as a liaison with Facilities Services; IT Services; University Police; the Office of Risk Management, Audit and Safety; and contractors to ensure the delivery of research laboratories and support spaces.
12) Coordinates the work of unit staff with Facilities Services staff and oversees and evaluates the work of contractors. 13) Leads planning of assigned JFI capital projects, including new construction and renovation, and other facilities-related projects with the PSD Director of Design and Construction.
14) Provides final review of project plans and ensures quality of services throughout the lifecycle of laboratory projects.
1) Knowledge and experience working in chemistry and physical sciences laboratory; understanding of the equipment used in these types of labs; and the ability to provide assistance in resolving facility related issues within these laboratories.
2) Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to interface comfortably with graduate students, post-docs, faculty, contractors and staff.
3) Understand, coordinate and know when specific construction related skills are needed including, but not limited to blueprint reading, soldering, piping (all kinds), welding, machining, wiring.

1) A minimum of seven years of experience managing laboratories, laboratory equipment, facilities of similar size and scope.
